Behind Carbon Calulations and Climate Action at TEDx Verbania
Mission
Committed to full transparency
When we got the opportunity to create a physical experience for TEDx Verbania, we knew we wanted to do more than just "go green." Our goal was to build a space that was fun, immersive, and capable of connecting people, all while being upfront about our environmental impact.
So, we rolled up our sleeves to calculate emissions, identified some tricky supply chain gaps, and did our best to stay honest about the good, the bad, and the not-quite-there-yet. No perfection here, but plenty of accountability.
Footprint
Our footprint: 926.81 kg of CO₂e
These are the total emissions of bringing our #goodspace to life. How we calculated that? With the 2030 Calculator, a handy tool that helps break down emissions into tangible chunks like materials, manufacturing, packaging, transportation, and energy use. It helped us spot areas to improve while keeping our calculations as thorough as possible. For travel-related emissions, we turned to the MyClimate CO₂ Calculator to keep things on point.
Total Carbon Footprint
896.12 kg of CO₂e
Products Weight
33.69 kg
Total Distance
40445.5 km

Action
Doing more than just offsetting
Offsetting our emissions was just the start. We wanted to go further and make a climate-positive mark. That’s why we acquired 2 tons of CO₂e carbon credits from CO2GESTIÓN, a government-certified initiative by the Spanish company GESFORMA.
Their work goes beyond carbon reduction—they combat climate change through reforestation and carbon absorption projects. By planting forests in rural Spain, they restore ecosystems, support local economies, and offer sustainable ways for businesses to offset their footprints.

Elements
Because every choice matters
Every element of our goodspace was carefully considered, reused where possible, and responsibly sourced. Here's how we approached it:
What we reused
Ventilators: To keep the air moving
Bluetooth Speaker: For the background music
Smart Light Bulb: To set the atmosphere
Light Bulb Sockets: Because you can’t have lights without them!
Pens: For you to leave your marks
goodbase Branded Clothing: So our team was easy to spot
What we bought (and will reuse again)
Air Pump: Because blowing up 600 balloons with our mouths wasn’t an option
Fog Machine and Liquid: For that touch of magic.
Curtain and Bar: To keep the balloons inside the room.
Red Film: To change the color of the room's existing lighting
What didn’t work out
1st Fog Machine: Arrived broken. We recycled it properly.
1st Curtain Bar: Delayed delivery = canceled order.
What we couldn’t measure
Some things, like video calls or on-site electricity use, didn’t make it into our numbers. But, to make up for this, we offset a little extra than necessary—just to be sure.
